Assessment

A system of continuous assessment, both formal and informal, is used to monitor pupils’ progress. The information obtained also provides a basis on which the teacher will plan appropriate programmes of work. Information from each year group is also used to determine the setting of targets over the following year.

A Foundation Stage Profile is completed throughout the child’s first year at school and shared with the parents regularly.

Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) are administered in year 2 (the end of National Curriculum Key Stage 1) and in year 6 (the end of National Curriculum Key Stage 2). Their purpose is to give an indication of each child’s performance compared with that of an average child in that year group. Children are assessed in reading, spelling, grammar and maths. Writing, speaking and listening skills and scientific knowledge is also assessed by the teacher.

In order to further monitor progress, children in all other year groups complete standard tests at the end of each term.

Termly Topic Overviews

Brickhill has a long-established commitment to creative learning. Therefore, when converting to a Primary School in September 2017 and introducing Years 5 & 6 children into the school, it was decided to make a change and chose Cornerstones Curriculum to help us deliver the Curriculum.

The Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) that make up the Cornerstones Curriculum give a fresh start to the curriculum which the children enjoy.
